About

I'm Roberto Gallea. I was born in Palermo in 1983 and I still live there, with my wife Renata.

I hold a PhD in computer science and I work at the University of Palermo. Most of what I do is technical, on both the software and the hardware side, and it ends up in quite different fields: data science, multimedia, computer vision, electronics and digital arts.

On this site I mostly write about Laravel and PHP, including the packages I maintain, and about what I build at home: home automation, synthesizers, lamps and other objects with LEDs inside.

I have also written a few books, on Laravel, testing and LLM applications.

Woodwork

I am also passionate about woodwork. I like to start from a traditional design, a lamp or a piece of furniture, and fit some technology into it without losing its character.

Art and events

I work with artists, often digital ones, on performances built around movement.

I organised TEDxCarini and TEDxOretoRiver, two independent TEDx events in the area where I live.
